“It came about after these things that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, being one hundred and ten years old. And they buried him in the territory of his inheritance in Timnath-serah, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of Mount Gaash. Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders who survived Joshua, and had known all the deeds of the Lord which He had done for Israel.” Joshua‬ ‭24‬:‭29‬-‭31‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

If only the people had continued to serve the Lord. We will see in the book of Judges that Israel did not continue serving the Lord.

Israel could not inherit the land under Moses. They could not inherit it under the Law. It took Joshua to bring them into their inheritance. The Law could not bring them in. They could not earn God’s favorite. The land was an act of grace, given to them under Joshua or Yeshua. Jesus brings us into our inheritance.

Joshua completed what Moses did, but never contradicted what Moses did. Jesus completed what the Law did but never contradicted the Law. He fulfilled it so that we could have grace to fulfill it.

I heard today that Revelation is the book of Joshua on steroids. In Joshua, the land is claimed. In Revelation, the earth is reclaimed. In Joshua there are two witnesses. In Revelation there are two witnesses. We are God’s witnesses. At the end of time, the believing Jews and the believing Gentiles will be God’s witnesses to the world. I believe it isn’t two people, but instead two people groups who will proclaim the testimony of Jesus. It just blew my mind how closely the book of Joshua and Revelation were alike.
