“Now the fifth lot fell to the tribe of the sons of Asher according to their families. Their territory was Helkath and Hali and Beten and Achshaph, and Allammelech and Amad and Mishal; and it reached to Carmel on the west and to Shihor-libnath. It turned toward the east to Beth-dagon and reached to Zebulun, and to the valley of Iphtahel northward to Beth-emek and Neiel; then it proceeded on north to Cabul, and Ebron and Rehob and Hammon and Kanah, as far as Great Sidon. The border turned to Ramah and to the fortified city of Tyre; then the border turned to Hosah, and it ended at the sea by the region of Achzib. Included also were Ummah, and Aphek and Rehob; twenty-two cities with their villages. This was the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Asher according to their families, these cities with their villages.” Joshua‬ ‭19‬:‭24‬-‭31‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Asher got beach front property. However, beach front property is not all that it is cracked up to be. It is the land area that will experience a hurricane first. For Israel, this tribe would have to fend off sea attacks.

What was significant about Asher? You really don’t hear much about it until you get to the New Testament. There was a very famous Asherite that was in the temple when Mary and Joseph to Jesus to be circumcised. Her name was Anna. I wanted to include her story because it is significant, although often overlooked.

“And there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years and had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers. At that very moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.” Luke‬ ‭2‬:‭36‬-‭38‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Here is a woman from an insignificant tribe who is called a prophetess. What makes her a prophetess? She spoke of Jesus. According to Revelation, the gift of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus. Therefore, she is a true prophet. So, a woman, from an insignificant tribe who is called a prophetess, and get this….

Proclaiming and preaching the scriptures in the temple! Oh if I could put a shocked, open-mouthed emoji right here I would! What if she had been told that she could not preach or proclaim the scriptures in the temple!!! She was actually one of the first ones to do so!!

Asher may have been an insignificant tribe, however, there is significance in Christ and this woman, who was a widow, who would have been very overlooked in Israel was one who preached, proclaimed, and prophesied in the temple about Jesus. She had significance in Christ and in Him alone. Amazing!
